Contributions

For cash contributions to your  RRSP or TFSA from your linked bank account or Scotia iTRADE non-registered account using classic view:

  1. Go to the Transfer tab and select the Transfer Funds page
  2. Choose an account to transfer "From"
  3. Select your RRSP or TFSA account as the “To” account
  4. Enter a $ amount
  5. Click “Continue”
  6. Verify your instruction and click “Confirm” to submit your request

Using the new online experience:

  1. Click on the Move Money Tab
  2. Click on the Transfer between accounts tab
  3. Choose an account to transfer "From"
  4. Select your RRSP or TFSA account as the “To” account
  5. Enter a $ amount
  6. Click “Continue”
  7. Verify your instruction and click “Confirm” to submit your request
You should ensure that the amount you contribute to your RRSP or TFSA does not exceed your contribution limits for these registered products. You should consult your tax advisor to ensure that you understand the specific tax implications of your individual contribution.

For in-kind contributions (i.e. mutual fund or stock positions contributed as is) to your RRSP or TFSA from your Scotia iTRADE non-registered cash account using classic view:

  1. Go to the Account Details page under the Accounts tab
  2. Select your Scotia iTRADE non-registered cash account and then select the Additional Services tab
  3. Select the “Transfer Securities and Funds Between Accounts” service
  4. Follow the instructions to transfer Equities and Mutual Funds from your cash account to your TFSA or RRSP.

Using the new online experience:

  1. Click on the Move Money Tab
  2. Click on the Transfer Securities
  3. Follow the instructions to transfer Equities and Mutual Funds from your cash account to your TFSA or RRSP.
You should ensure that the amount you contribute to your RRSP or TFSA does not exceed your contribution limits for these registered products. You should consult your tax advisor to ensure that you understand the specific tax implications of your individual contribution..

De-registrations/withdrawals

For cash RRSP de-registrations or TFSA withdrawals to your linked bank account or Scotia iTRADE non-registered account in classic view:

  1. Go to the Transfer Tab and select the Registered Withdrawals page
  2. Select your RRSP or TFSA account in the “From” section
  3. Select your linked bank account or Scotia iTRADE non-registered account in the “To” section
  4. Indicate whether the request is “Partial” or “Full”
  5. For RRSP de-registrations only,  select the “Withdrawal Type” to indicate how you would like the fees and taxes handled and select “Calculate”
  6. Select “Preview” to review your request and click “Confirm” to submit

In the new online experience:

  1. Go to the Move Money tab
  2. Select your RRSP or TFSA account in the “From” section
  3. Select your linked bank account or Scotia iTRADE non-registered account in the “To” section
  4. Indicate whether the request is “Partial” or “Full”
  5. For RRSP de-registrations only, select the “Withdrawal Type” to indicate how you would like the fees and taxes handled and select “Calculate”
  6. Select “Preview” to review your request and click “Confirm” to submit

You should be aware that a de-registration of, and withdrawal from, your RRSP will generally be subject to tax in the year of de-registration/withdrawal. You should consult your tax advisor to ensure that you understand the tax implications to you of a de-registration, or withdrawal from, your RRSP or TFSA.

For in-kind RRSP de-registrations or TFSA withdrawals (i.e. stock positions withdrawn as is) from your RRSP or TFSA to your Scotia iTRADE non-registered account in classic view:

  1. Go to the Account Details page under the Accounts tab
  2. Select your RRSP or TFSA account and then select the Additional Services tab
  3. Select the “Transfer Securities and Funds Between Accounts” service
  4. Complete the required information, including your name, stock position details and finally the Scotia iTRADE non registered account you want the position moved to. Please note; you may specify a current day traded price for the de-registration or withdrawal. If you do not specify a current day traded price, or if your request is made on a day the market is not open, the default value for the de-registration or withdrawal will be the previous day’s last sale price.

Using the new online experience:

  1. Click on the Move Money Tab
  2. Click on the Transfer Securities and then “Other Security Types”
  3. Follow the instructions to transfer Equities and Mutual Funds from your registered account to your cash account

You should be aware that a de-registration of, and withdrawal from, your RSP will generally be subject to tax in the year of de-registration/withdrawal. You should consult your tax advisor to ensure that you understand the tax implications to you of a de-registration, or withdrawal from, your RSP or TFSA.

Please note that your transactions may take up to 3 business days to be reflected in your account(s) from the day the request has been submitted.
